PakWheels.com hacked, over half million accounts compromised

Pakistan’s biggest automotive classified website PakWheels.com was hacked and data of over 600,000 registered accounts was compromised.

The company informed its customers about the breach in their servers, which exposed the personal information of registered users including names, emails, encrypted passwords, mobile number and Facebook sessions, through an email on December 26.

“We recently came across a security breach in our forums software, which may have exposed some user information to a third party. The security breach was due a known vulnerability in vBulletin – the forum software used by Pakwheels.com,” read the email from the automotive website to its customers.

PakWheels also urged its users to change their account password to ensure security of their personal information.

Quoting LeakedSource, a data breach notification website, HackRead claimed that over 674,775 accounts were compromised.

It is unclear why PakWheels took months to notify its users as according to information available with LeakedSource the breach took place in October this year. There’s no information on who was behind the attack.

Hacker defaces Zameen.com, leaks database online

This is not the first time a major classified website in the country was targeted by hackers. Earlier this year, Pakistan’s leading real estate portal Zameen.com was also defaced by Bangladeshi hackers.

The alleged hacker, who was apparently operating from Bangladesh, claimed that he was able to hack into the portal and dump confidential user data online. Leaked data included user names, encrypted passwords, email addresses, phone numbers and other sensitive information.
