Reaping benefits: CPEC brought Pakistan into the limelight, says president
Mamnoon lauds the armed forces for restoring peace across the country
PESHAWAR:
Pakistan has become the centre of attention in the region in the wake of the CPEC project’s unveiling, President Mamnoon Hussain said on Friday.
Nearly half of the world’s population will reap the benefits of this route, according to the president, who was speaking as a chief guest at a function held at the Governor House.
Assuring the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa of its due share in the project, he said that the project’s volume had risen to the Rs57 trillion.
The president recalled that the prime minister had assured all small provinces that investment would be made in various energy and industrial projects, besides creating roads and railways links.
“The CPEC will link half of the world’s (population) and Pakistan will become a major (economic) power, benefiting the entire region,” he said.
Criticising previous governments for indiscriminately inducting manpower, the president said that most national institutions had surplus staff.
Without specifically naming the PPP, he said that during the tenure of the previous government thousands of people with below par performance had been appointed in various organisations, adding that the PLM-N government had decided to streamline all such over-staffed institutions.
Appreciating the military’s sacrifices, President Mamnoon said that the armed forces had restored peace across the country, adding that the people of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa had also suffered a lot because of extremism and terrorism.
He offered prayers for the departed souls of the Army Public School (APS) who lost their lives in the process.
Later, students of APS sang the national anthem and other national songs.
