Social progress hinges on freedom of expression, thought and choice. This was stated by speakers at the second Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) international conference on social sciences called Research in Post-modern Times. The two-day moot concluded on Friday with a set of recommendations from Pakistani and foreign scholars calling for societal reforms through applied research. According to statement, the conference saw deliberations on multiple socio-economic problems faced by the country. Speakers at the moot underlined the need for qualitative research in development of social sciences. They said that social development was the most important area for overall progress of a society. AIOU Vice Chancellor Dr Shahid Siddiqui announced that the conference would be an annual feature, bringing together scientists from home and abroad to review development in the field of social sciences which meets the demand of the modern times.
