Construction on King Abdullah University starts
After three years of delays, ERRA hands over land required to start work on King Abdullah University Project.
MUZAFFARABAD:
After three years of delays, Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) has handed over the land required to start work on King Abdullah University Project.
Last month, the Supreme Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) directed ERRA, State Rehabilitation Reconstruction Agency (SERRA) and the project’s financier Saudi Development Fund (SDF) to ensure that work on the project is started by end of February. The court had directed SDF to select a construction company.
The donor had threatened to shift funds to flood relief projects after ERRA cancelled the contract of a Karachi-based company, which was awarded by SERRA.
A Rs5.561 billion King Abdullah University campus will be built at Chattar Klass near Muzaffarabad while the Rawalakot campus will cost Rs1.6 billion.
Addressing a press conference here on Thursday, AJK University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Habibur Rehman said the Chattar Klass Campus will be completed in three years while the Rawalakot campus will take two years to complete. “The buildings will follow international safety standards,” he added. He said that the Muzaffarabad campus is being constructed on an area of almost 107,000 square metres and the contract
has been awarded to Sambo.
