‘AJK zakat dept provides over Rs250m every year’
President Khan hailed the efforts of the Zakat and Ushr Department for helping the poor and needy

The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Department of Zakat and Ushr has distributed more than Rs250 million every year among poor and needy people.
This was revealed by the Zakat and Ushr Department officials while briefing AJK president Sardar Masood Khan here at the President’s Secretariat.

During the briefing, Zakat and Ushr Secretary Bashir Mughal said that Rs100 million is distributed among the needy by the state’s prime minister, president, minister for Zakat and Ushr, chief secretary , zakat chief administrator, educational institutions and hospitals.
“The main recipients of zakat funds are the poor, widows, disabled people, poor students, poor patients, and seminaries. The revenue of the zakat department is Rs340 million, while expenditures is roughly Rs430million,’ Mughal told the president.
The secretary explained that 1,438 Zakat committees have been working in the region to distribute Zakat funds on merit among the needy and deserving people.
AJK government approves Rs701 million for multiple projects
“Individuals and families of less than three members get Rs1,000 , four-to-six member families receives Rs1,300, and bigger families get Rs1,600 per month. More than Rs150 million have been distributed among poor families in the region during the last one year,” he said.
