LAHORE: Taking up a petition challenging the appointment of the Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) Director General (DG), Lahore High Court Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah ordered the CPWB administration to fix any irregularities.

The chief justice was holding proceedings on a petition filed by Advocate Sheraz Zaka. On the court notice, a representative of CPWB, Muhammad Mumtaz and Additional Advocate General Punjab Salman Khawaja, appeared before the court on Wednesday. However, they failed to justify the posting of the CPWB Director General Fatima Sheikh.

Sheraz argued that according to Service Rules of Child Protection Welfare Bureau 2010, the CPWB DG should be a Grade-19 officer and belong to either the Punjab Management Services (PSM) or District Management Group (DMG). He added Fatima was a Grade-18 officer from the information group. He added Fatima has been serving as acting DG for the last two years and nobody can be appointed on acting charges for more than six months, as per service rules. Sheraz said the appointment should be set aside.
