An unbeaten 85-run knock by man of the match Chris Lynn was enough to see Brisbane Heat defeat Sydney Thunder by three wickets in the Big Bash League at the Sydney Showground Stadium on Wednesday.

Electing to field first, Brisbane Heat were given a 158-run target as Sydney Thunder could not withstand the bowling attack featuring Samuel Badree and Jack Wildermuth, who both claimed two wickets apiece.

Thunder were off to a shaky start as they had lost their first two wickets by the third ball of the fourth over which included the wicket of captain Shane Watson for naught.

Kurtis Patterson and Eoin Morgan then steadied the ship as they put on a 48-run partnership before the former was dismissed by Mitchell Swepson. Morgan then carried on the good work as he was involved in a 30-run stand with Andre Russell.

Morgan was dismissed in the 17th over after being caught by Swepson off Badree’s delivery with the team 112-5. After that Beh Rohrer (17) and Chris Green (22) contributed with important knocks to take the team’s total to 157.

In reply, Brisbane Heat lost their first two wickets early on but Lynn anchored the innings as batsmen at the other end of the pitch kept falling at regular intervals.

All set for Gayle-less Big Bash

Lynn smashed 10 boundaries and three sixes in his 48-ball stay to see his side through.

He was supported by tail-ender Wildermuth, whose 29-run knock was extremely crucial in allowing his side to reach the target.

For Thunder, Pat Cummins, Fawad Ahmed and Green claimed two wickets apiece.
