All parties need to work together: Ebad

Says government cannot handle issues alone.

KARACHI:

Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad has said that all parties would have to sit together and find ways and means to face challenges being faced by the country.

Addressing the annual dinner of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati) on Thursday night, Ebad said the country is facing various challenges, particularly law and order and declining economy, and all the stakeholders should sit together as the government cannot face the challenges alone and without the help of all the parties and people.

Ebad said that though the condition of economy is not good, some indicators such as record high foreign exchange reserves and increase in exports suggest the situation is not that bad either.

He said that industries in Karachi have been exempted from outages while the gas shortage issue has been resolved in consultation with the Karachi Electric Supply Company and the Sui Southern Gas Company.

Din Group of Industries Managing Director SM Muneer pointed out that staging of the strike against increase in pewtroleum product prices has caused revenue losses of Rs5 billion to the national exchequer and the government should realise this factor. “Instead of increasing prices of petroleum products and utilities, the government should try to avoid greater losses in the shape of strikes, industry shutdowns and export shipment failures,” he added.
