Kaneria puts Sindh on top in Pentangular Cup

Iqbal, Alam hit centuries as K-P struggle for the second day running.

KARACHI:

Sindh cemented their position of dominance on the second day of their Pentangular Cup match, leaving Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) reeling at 123 for six after declaring their first innings on 461 for six yesterday morning.

Leg-spinner Danish Kaneria was in fine form for Sindh, picking up three wickets as K-P’s batting crumbled under pressure. Aftab Alam top-scored with 41 that he scored with the help of four boundaries.

Earlier, Faisal Iqbal and Fawad Alam resumed the innings for Sindh and completed their centuries.

Iqbal made 118, hitting 12 fours in the process, while Alam contributed 108. Khalid Usman was the most successful bowler, picking up three wickets.

Khalil blows away Balochistan

Punjab made a brilliant comeback in their match against Balochistan, bowling the visitors out for a paltry 126, and ending the second day on 215 for four.

Resuming their innings, Balochistan suffered a dramatic batting collapse with only three batsmen reaching double figures.

Fast-bowler Mohammad Khalil was the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts, registering remarkable figures of eight for 38 to dent Balochistan’s hopes of posting a decent total.

Opener Zain Abbas was the lone performer for Balochistan, with a top score of 71, made with the help of nine boundaries to bring some respect to the otherwise dismal total.

Punjab started their second innings with a 92-run opening partnership. Test-discard Imran Farhat hit an unbeaten 103, belting 15 fours in the process. Zulfiqar Babar picked up two wickets for the visitors.
