Mid-academic session: Students at H-8 college left in the lurch
English professor transferred from postgraduate college to commerce college
ISLAMABAD:
Students and administration of a college in the capital are worried after a professor was transferred in the middle of the academic year.
The head of the English department at Islamabad Model Postgraduate College in H-8, M Khalid, was recently transferred to the Islamabad Model Postgraduate College of Commerce in H-8/4.Interestingly, Khalid is an Associate Professor and there was no vacant post for an associate professor in the commerce college.
The commerce college has seven posts for associate professors and none of the slots are vacant. Moreover, the college already had four English teachers working there against a requirement of three teachers. Khalid had been teaching MA English classes at the postgraduate college in H-8, which is one of the largest degree colleges in the city.
“It is a general practice that no teacher is transferred during the academic session as changing a teacher during the session has a bad impact on the students since the new teacher has his own line of action to finish the remaining syllabus,” said a teacher at the college while requesting anonymity. He criticised Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) officials for failing to consider this before transferring the teacher.
FDE Colleges Director Zulfikar Ali, meanwhile, said the professor had been transferred after he had filed a request for the move, claiming that it was closer to his house. Moreover, he said that the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) approved the transfer after the professor’s application had been forwarded by the college’s principal.
