Sindh govt launches population policy

The government has achieved a successful milestone by developing its population policy

The Sindh government launched the 'Sindh Population Policy, 2016' on Thursday.

The minister of the population department, Mumtaz Jakhrani, launched the policy announced that his department also took lead in the country to develop the country's coasted implementation plan (CIP), a multi-year actionable roadmap designed to help governments achieve their family planning goals.


He said that after the 18th Amendment, the department has achieved a successful milestone by developing its population policy, communication and training strategy. The government of Sindh has already allocated Rs890 million for the CIP. It is now up to various stakeholders to join hands with the department to achieve the objectives by 2020.

In this connection, the Sindh government has already set a target to raise by 2020 its contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) from the existing 30% to 45%, achieve universal access to safe and quality reproductive health and family planning services, reduce unmet need for family planning from 21% to 14%, achieve a decrease in fertility level from 3.9 (2013) to 3.0 births per woman. Further, contraceptive commodity security up to 80% at all public service outlets will be ensured by 2018 and the replacement level fertility of 2.1 births per woman will be achieved by 2035.
