Narcotics possession: Police officer sent to jail on remand

A local court on Monday sent a Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) police officer, charged with narcotics possession, to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
Magistrate Navid Raza Tarar sent Sub Inspector Umar Irfan to Adiala Jail after a police team of Naseerabad Police Station produced him before the court.
Irfan, who was deputed as Additional SHO at Bahanamari Police Station in Peshawar, was arrested at a check point by the Naseerabad police on Sunday while allegedly attempting to smuggle 1.4 kg of heroin in his car. A police team headed by investigation officer Sub Inspector Arshad produced Irfan before the court of Civil Judge Tarar.
The police told the court that they had seized the car, the heroin, and a pistol from the possession of the suspect and had also completed the investigation.
Police told the court that because the accused had confessed, they did not need to have him in custody any longer. The court sent the accused to Adiala Jail on 14-day judicial remand.
