Nearly 25 million children still out of school: Imran
Imran said the country and its institutions could only be strengthened by embracing merit at all levels
LAHORE:
At least 25 million children are out of school, but rulers are finding a bright future for the nation in roads and bridges, PTI Chairman Imran Khan said while speaking at the annual convocation of the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) here on Saturday.
Imran said the country and its institutions could only be strengthened by embracing merit at all levels.
“There is a dire need to ensure merit in health, education and judicial systems. Absence of merit has ruined state institutions such as PIA and Pakistan Steel Mills,” he said.
Citing the example of K-P police, he said that the crime rate in the province had dramatically declined against other provinces. According to him, the PTI-led K-P government had achieved this feat by embracing merit and depoliticising the police.
Imran said: “Nothing is impossible if you trust yourself. Nobody can defeat you unless you give up. ”
He urged philanthropists to generously donate to the university, he said that he wanted to transform the university INTO an illustrious institution such as the Oxford University where students from all over the world flocked for quality education.
