LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court has summoned the Punjab Mass Transit Authority director-general to explain the delay in payment against acquisition of Miani Sahib Graveyard’s land for the Lahore metro bus service project. A commission filed its report before the court revealing that over one kanal land of the graveyard had been illegally occupied by the office of Wapda/Lesco since 1986. On Friday, Justice Ali Akbar Qureshi directed Lesco to vacate the land of the Miani Sahib graveyard immediately and to pay rent to its committee for the whole period. Lesco chief Wajid Kazmi gave an undertaking for the compliance of the order. The report also revealed the government had not paid the money to the graveyard committee against the land acquired for the metro bus. The judge voiced concern on the inordinate delay and directed the mass transit chief to appear in person and explain the reasons on December 19.
