ISLAMABAD: Brazilian Ambassador to Pakistan Alfredo Leoni has said a team of experts is scheduled to visit Pakistan in May which will share technical and general information regarding production of bio-fuel through sugarcane and its usage in cars and power generation.

Addressing the business community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) on Wednesday, the Brazilian ambassador remarked that this would help Pakistan reduce dependence on petroleum products.

Leoni offered technical support in social sector development to boost economic ties between the two countries. He said that promotion of commercial and economic ties would further boost bilateral relations.

Brazil was the first commercial partner of Pakistan in Latin America and bilateral trade between the two countries stood at around $400 million.

Leoni said Pakistani businessmen, who are interested in doing business with Brazilian partners, must register themselves on www.braziltradenet.gov.br and become a member and player of the biggest database available in Brazil involving international trading companies, market studies, information on fairs, Brazilian companies and trade offers.

He proposed that Pakistan could review Brazilian success in areas of economy and development achieved through the implementation of ‘Real Plan’. The plan was introduced in 1994 to tame inflation and stabilise the economy.

Leoni said that the plan had helped Brazil to convert its economy from a borrower to a lender, adding that 18 years of inflation had been brought down to 4.6 per cent per year due to the plan.
