Gul Bibi was kidnapped from Thatta 13 days ago.
KARACHI:
An assistant inspector of police (ASI) was arrested for allegedly kidnapping a girl and forcing her to marry him in court.
The drama unfolded on the premises of Sindh High Court on Wednesday afternoon when ASI Ali Dost and his accomplices brought 20-year-old Gul Bibi for a court marriage. Gul shouted for help as soon as the private car pulled into the courts and attracted the attention of Rangers and the police.
The security personnel stopped the car and forced Ali Dost to surrender. A witness said that the ASI’s accomplices were roaming around the parking area even before he arrived.
Later, Chief Justice Mushir Alam heard Gul narrate her ordeal. She said that Ali Dost kidnapped her from Makli, Thatta, 13 days ago and brought her to Karachi. It was also found that a kidnapping case of the girl had been lodged at Thatta police station.
The judge sent Gul to a shelter. The Artillery Maidan police was also called by the registrar to register an FIR for the incident inside the court. The ASI revealed the names of his accomplices but they had escaped during the scuffle.
