Malnutrition has plagued the country and it is the need of the hour to take concrete measures to address the issue. We should adopt a healthy lifestyle and take food safety measures.
These views were expressed by experts during a workshop titled ‘The Research Methods in Nutrition’ arranged by National Institute of Food Sciences and Technology, University of Agriculture, Faisalabad.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Anwarul Hassan Gilani said the changing lifestyle, junk food, unphysical activities, over-eating and obesity were the root cause of many diseases. He stressed upon physical exercise and intake of balanced diet for a healthy life. He said that high caloric intake, dependence on impure and processed foods, environmental pollutions pose a serious threat to the lives of people. Prof Dr Iqrar Ahmad Khan said the county was producing surplus food for the people. But on the other hand, 40% of women and children were malnourished. He said lack of awareness, unhealthy lifestyle and other factors were provoking malnutrition in the country.
