Balochistan kidnappings: Second day with abandoned courtrooms
Lawyers accuse government of backing criminals.
QUETTA:
Lawyers boycotted court proceedings in Balochistan for a second consecutive day on Tuesday.
A rally was also organised to protest the kidnapping of two judges and four lawyers. Lawyers have warned that the strike will continue until their colleagues are recovered safely.
The lawyers did not appear before superior and lower courts in the province after 11 am. They took out a procession from the sessions court and marched through different parts of the city including Shahrah-e-Iqbal, Jinnah Road and held a demonstration at Meezan Chowk. Protesters chanted slogans against the government and law enforcement agencies for their failure to protect the life and liberty of people, and accused the government of backing criminals.
Angry lawyers blocked the national highway near Dera Allahyar in Jaffarabad, disrupting traffic between Sindh and Balochistan. Traffic remained paralysed for several hours causing inconvenience to people stuck on either side of the highway.
On Sunday, two judges were kidnapped, while another four lawyers abducted earlier remain missing.
