Ride-hailing behemoth Uber entered the Pakistani market earlier this year and its instant success suggests the service is here to stay.

Though Uber rolls out timely updates to keep its service ahead of competitors, the ride-hailng app also takes care of the safety of its drivers and as such has published a set of guidelines which, if not complied with, could lead to users being permanently banned.

The ride hailing app aims to make its service safe for both, riders and drivers. “We want Uber to be enjoyable and safe for everyone. These ground rules are designed to ensure that riders and drivers have a five star ride when using Uber,” a statement on the app's website reads.



Here are the five things that can get you banned from using Uber.

1. Damaging drivers’ or other passengers’ property

This means causing damage to the driver’s car and other belongings. It also includes intentionally spilling drink or food in the car and smoking, or vomiting due to excessive alcohol consumption.

2. Physical contact with the driver or fellow riders

No sexual conduct with the driver or fellow rider is accepted. This also includes touching or flirting with other people in the car. The service also strictly forbids users from causing physical harm to a driver or fellow passenger.

3. Use of inappropriate and abusive language or gestures

Riders can also be banned for making comments or gestures that are aggressive, sexual, discriminatory, or disrespectful. Asking overly personal questions and using verbal threats is also strictly prohibited.



4. Unwarranted contact with the driver or fellow passenger after the trip 

Uber forbids riders from texting, calling, or visiting someone in person after a ride has been completed. Its smartphone app also allows user to call for a service without having to share their personal phone number hence maintaining anonymity.

5. Breaking the law while using Uber

This includes bringing unlawful things such as alcohol, drugs or weapons into the car. Asking the driver to break traffic laws such as speed limits or using the service to commit a crime can also lead to a ban.
