Mera Pakistan conference on March 11

Aims to dispel misconceptions, promote industries and self-employment.

KARACHI:
The Old Students Association of the Government College of Commerce and Economics (Commecs) and the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) have organised a conference titled ‘Mera Pakistan’ to be held on March 11.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, Commecs President Asif Arif said, “there are misconceptions about Pakistan in the rest of the world and often even the people of this country are disheartened by the inaccurate perception.”

“The aim of the event is to dispel negative misconceptions about the country and highlight the achievements of Pakistanis in various fields over the years,” he explained.

“Inspirational leaders ranging from Dr Samar Mubarakmand and Dr Ishrat Hussain to Aqeel Karim Dedhi will address the participants,” said KCCI President Saeed Shafiq. He stressed the need for responsible journalism and urged the media to play a constructive role as “a pillar of the state”.

“The youth must be given hope because they have everything else needed to propel this nation to a new era of progress and development,” he stressed.

The event will include presentations on developments in the country’s conventional industries such as textiles as well as emerging opportunities in alternative energy and corporate agriculture. Panel discussions will focus on self-employment and improving economic conditions.

Organisers have pledged to take the conference to other cities of the country, after assessing its success in Karachi.
