K-P CM’s surprise visit: Police station staff suspended over torture

At the police station there were visible signs of torture on the accused’s body and there was no FIR

PESHAWAR:
Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Pervaiz Khattak suspended the entire staff of Peshawar’s Kutawali police station, for detaining an accused person illegally and torturing him.

Khattak suspended the police officials after he made a surprise visit to the police station, along with CCPO Tahir Khan and other officials. According to details, the CM and MPA Shaukat Yousafzai had been informed about the detention of a man on charges of stealing a laptop. They were also told that he had been tortured and detained without an FIR.

He made a surprise visit but the accused had been shifted to the Kutwali police station. At the police station there were visible signs of torture on the accused’s body and there was no FIR. In view of this he ordered action against the entire staff of the police station and suspended them as well.

Speaking at the police station the CM said that police should not use torture as means of investigation rather they should use scientific techniques for investigation.
