Weather turns pleasant: AJK, Hazara division get first winter showers
Light rains mean marked drop in temperatures
MUZAFFARABAD:
Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sunday received moderate rain after a four-month long dry spell on Saturday night.
The rains were a blessing as it helped improve the climate for people suffering from minor ailments such as cough, influenza and other chest and skin diseases. According to the meteorological department, AJK and its adjacent areas including Gujranawala, Hazara and Murree received moderate rains which addressed the drought like situation after a four-month long dry spell.
Showers in Muzaffarabad late on Saturday night meant there was a marked change in the weather on Sunday morning with clear skies.
The maximum temperature fell to 17 degrees with the minimum falling to just two degrees Celsius. The Met department has predicted further showers over the next three to four days.
Abbottabad
Similarly in Abbottabad and its surrounding areas, the weather turned pleasant as the area got its first winter showers.
Abbottabad, Nathiagali, Ayubia, Thandiyani and other hilly areas received some light rain and thunderstorm on Sunday evening. These areas also saw a marked drop in temperatures to freezing point.
As the temperature dropped, people rushed to shops to buy fried snacks such as fish, samosas and other winter delicacies.
The Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain at scattered places in Hazara division while snowfall over the hills is also expected in Gillyat and Thandiani over the next 24 hours.
