823 graduates begin a new chapter in their lives
As many as 90 students graduated on the Chancellor's Honours List
KARACHI:
The world is yours, go out and conquer it, said parliamentary affairs minister Nisar Ahmed Khuhro. He was the chief guest at the 13th annual convocation of the Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST) on Saturday evening. Knowledge is the key to a progressive and successful Pakistan, he added.
During the ceremony, degrees were conferred on 823 students from various programmes, including management science, social science, education, media science, bioscience, mechatronics engineering and computer science. Among the graduating students, 388 were undergraduates and 433 were postgraduates.
A total of seven students were awarded gold medals for their performance in their respective departments and 12 students received silver medals. As many as 90 students graduated on the Chancellor's Honours List.
While applauding the performance of the students, faculty, and management, Khuhro also acknowledged the efforts of the founder of the institute.
The degrees conferred on the graduating students are not just a blueprint but a roadmap for their professional and personal growth, said Szabist president Shahnaz Wazir Ali.
Naheed Malbari, one of the PhD graduates, while giving the valedictorian speech, emphasised on thinking out of the box to achieve something of greater value. Only unconventional ideas can help you achieve your target, she added. "My time spent studying at Szabist was like a storybook, in which one chapter has ended and now the chapter of our professional life has started," remarked silver medalist Hiba Naeem.
I am honoured to get highest marks in my department, said Yasir Ali of bachelors of engineering in mechatronics. It was tough but we all made it by focusing on our studies, he added. "It's a dream come true to be awarded with a gold medal," said Neha Farid, who completed her bachelors of science in bioscience.
