Strange occurrence: Under-trial prisoner dies in Central Jail

Police officials said that the accused was a nephew of Lyari’s notorious gangster Rehman Dakait

KARACHI: An under-trial prisoner died in mysterious circumstances in Karachi Central Jail, on Saturday. The suspect, Shahzad alias Balaj, was arrested by Kalakot police in 2011 and was later sent to jail. Police officials said that the accused was a nephew of Lyari’s notorious gangster Rehman Dakait and had been involved in various criminal activities. His case was being tried by an anti-terrorism court (ATC). New Town police SHO Aijaz Ahmed said that the accused was imprisoned in Sukkar Jail from where some 18 prisoners, including the deceased, were brought to central jail, Karachi on Friday night for their hearing at the ATC but he died in mysterious circumstances at the jail.
