Corruption charges: FIA arrests 3 Steel Mills officials (National)

KARACHI:
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Friday arrested three high-level officials of the Pakistan Steel Mills (PSM) over corruption charges. They have been accused of accumulating Rs50 million in medicine sale and purchase deals. The agency has also started conducting raids to arrest a former employee of PSM involved with them.
The corporate crime circle received complaints from a company that was providing medical products to the PSM, alleging that some officials were demanding bribes from it. The company’s claim proved to be true after the FIA conducted further inquiry into the case.
These officials were also demanding bribes from other companies that were supplying their products to the PSM.
The officials arrested included General Manager Nusrat Islam Butt, Manager Dr Mustansar Gilani and former accountant Fahd Khan. However, the FIA is trying to arrest former director Hamid Pervez who is believed to have played an important role in supporting these officials.
