Silent killer: ‘Terrorism, corruption major challenges for country’
Students urged to blow the whistle on the corrupt
ISLAMABAD:
National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry on Wednesday said that Pakistan was facing two major challenges including terrorism and corruption.
Addressing a seminar on “ Corruption: The Silent Killer of Social Values” organised by NAB, he identified a nexus between terrorism and corruption, adding that this nexus needs to be tackled with iron hands.
In this regard, he referred to the National Action Plan and said that the armed forces were actively combating terrorism while NAB was making strides to purge the country of the corrupt.
The chairman said corruption was not only affecting the socio-economic fabric of the society but was also harmful to development process of the country.
He said corruption has no boundaries and efforts were being made by communities across the world to minimise it.
Chaudhry said NAB had launched various programmes to sensitise people to stop corruption. He urged the people particularly youth to spread message of NAB “say no to corruption” in every corner of the country.
The NAB chief expressed the hope that the people would soon get rid of this social evil. In this regard, he said prevention committees were set up in education, health and religious ministries to stop corruption.
NAB Rawalpindi Director General Attiqur Rehman said there was dire need to create awareness among the public about the ills of corruption.
Prof Dr Ghulam Raza urged the youth to blow the whistle against corruption as it could bring change in Pakistan.
