Commercial charity: Senate panel bemused by land use violation
The CDA had given permission for construction of a school on the plot
ISLAMABAD:
The commercial use of an amenity plot by Pakistan Foreign Office Women Association (PFOWA) drove a wedge between members of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat on Tuesday.
The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat has directed the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman to come up with an agreeable solution regarding the allotment of a 10-kanal plot by to the Pakistan Foreign Office Women Association after properly examining the issue.
The Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat met on Tuesday with Senator Talha Mehmood in the chair at the Parliament Lodges Conference Hall. The Foreign Affairs DG gave a presentation to committee members on the issue. At this senators Kulsoom Parveen, Kamil Ali Agha, Saiful Bangash and Yousaf Badini raised objections and said that the plot was allotted in the name of charity and could not be used for commercial use purposes.
Senator Shahi Syed, Senator Khush Bakht Shujat, and Raheela Magsi, however, said that a school was being built on the plot so the association must be given the permission for it.
A CADD additional secretary told the committee that the CDA had given permission for construction of a school on the plot and allowed the association to make a joint venture with a private education institute.
