Murder most foul: Prime suspects of Kismat Baig case arrested
Police say one of the suspects was enraged when the performer left him
LAHORE:
The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) has arrested four people allegedly involved in the murder of stage actress and performer Kismat Baig. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime during initial interrogation.
A couple of days ago, the CIA arrested Rana Muzzamil, who was involved with Kismat Baig. Based on information provided by him, Ranaa Faheem, Rana Tajamul and Shahi Janjua from Gujranwala were also taken into custody. These three confessed that they murdered Kismat on the orders of Muzzamil.
The actress’ former husband is a businessman from Faisalabad and got involved with Kismat about six years ago. They later started living together in the city, but it was not confirmed whether they were married or not.
About three years ago, Muzzamil’s wife was allegedly involved in a gun attack on Kismat. Later, Muzzamil shifted the actress to Lahore and gifted her a home in one of the more upscale localities.
Around six months, the two developed some differences and Muzammil accused Kismat of having relations with other men, including stage producer Ali Raza who was injured in the attack which resulted in Kismat’s death.
According to a family member of the actress, she left Muzzamil, but he was adamant to continue the relationship. Meanwhile, his own family was perturbed by his relationship and Muzammil was enraged when the actress finally left him.
Rana Faheem, a mutual friend of the couple, also had a bone to pick with the victim as she refused to perform a stage drama in Faisalabad, despite his repeated requests. Police said the suspects decided to team up and teach the performer a lesson. They rented a car from Gujranwala and attacked Kismat in the Harbanspura area while she was on the way home.
Rana Faheem, Shahid Janjua and Rana Tajamul was reportedly present for the attack and they informed Rana Muzzamil after the deed was done.
Police traced phone records and managed to determine that Muzzamil was especially enraged over Kismat’s relations with Ali Raza as the performer had started living with the producer and even appeared for his stage shows.
SSP investigation confirmed the matter was being further probed.
