Battle for QAT final begins

The final round of the Super Eight stage will act as a virtual semi-final for the four teams

KARACHI:
The final round of the battle for the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final begins today as WAPDA take on SSGC while HBL face UBL.

The final round of the Super Eight stage will act as a virtual semi-final for the four teams, who are currently the top two from both groups.

QAT top-scorer Kamran Akmal, who captains WAPDA, is confident going into the make-or-break clash. “We have played a day and night match with the pink kookaburra and we won that too so we are optimistic of winning this match as well as the day-night final,” said Kamran, who has scored 826 runs in just seven matches.

The Fawad Alam-led SSGC will be looking for more heroics from their top-scorer Asif Zakir, who has 811 runs in eight matches and was also the top-scorer last season. “I have been doing my best for the team,” said Zakir. “We all have to stick to our strategy and perform accordingly to qualify for the final as WAPDA are a tough side.”
