Encouraging sports: Schoololympics 2016 under way in Bahawalpur

Teams from six tehsils of district are participating

BAHAWALPUR: Sports activities and matches continued on the third day of Schoolympics 2016 where 200 teams from 90 schools of six tehsils in Bahawalpur have participated. The four-day event is under way at Dring Stadium.

The event has been organised to encourage sports activities in the district as such an initiative has not been taken before.

At least 2,000 male and female students are participating in the event where hockey, cricket, football, volleyball, badminton and table tennis matches will be played till Wednesday (today).



The teams from the six tehsils have been given names according to the historical links of their respective areas. Bahawalpur, Yazman, Hasilpur, Khaipur Tamewali, Ahmadpur East and Bahawalpur Sadar have been respectively names as Burraq, Sultan, Hoslamand, Khuddar, Nawab and Barq Raftar.

At the end of the event, 483 medals and 34 trophies would be presented to the participating teams and players who will achieve top positions in various activities.

The inaugural ceremony of the event was held on Sunday.
