
The two-day event was attended by over 5,000 people who were wowed by the 367 projects displayed by the students. The projects were categorised according to subjects that included biology, chemistry, physics, information technology, mathematics, management sciences and the newly introduced, Quranic sciences.
A team of geniuses, comprising Sahar Atif, Maria Javed and Bisma Adil, made a herbal cream that won the first prize in biology.
Afrina Ahmed, Alifiya Ismail and Mariam Saleem won the information technology prize for their health-ring project, while, in chemistry, the waste-water irrigation made by Faiza Khan, Tooba Zaidi and Kisa Zaidi won the blue ribbon.
The hybrid car made by Samra Siraj, Sidra Mujahid and Amir Merchant won the physics prize. Meanwhile, the boy with the bionic arm was much talked about.
The section on Quranic Sciences linked verses from the holy book to intrinsic science. Children highlighted how concepts such as the speed of light and types of stones were explained in the Quran. Javed Iqbal, Alamzeb and Shafiullah were the winners in this category for their calligraphic poster of Surah-e-Rehman.
Education Minister Pir Mazharul Haq was the chief guest at the closing ceremony and he appreciated the efforts of Aga Khan Education Service, Pakistan, in providing and facilitating education across the country. He also commended the students for their brilliant displays.
The science Olympiad is organised by the school every year, aiming to promote science and technology as an integral part of the learning environment.
