Javed Afridi says ‘we back our national heroes’
Javed Afridi, owner of Pakistan Super League franchise Peshawar Zalmi, has announced a Rs2.5 million award for Pakistani boxer Muhammad Waseem who defeated Philippines’ Giemel Magramo in Seoul, South Korea yesterday to retain his World Boxing Council (WBC) Silver flyweight title.
Afridi made the announcement via his Twitter account, saying that Peshawar Zalmi Foundation would support the pugilist in his upcoming events.

Peshawar Zalmi owner also stated that he will receive him tonight at airport and announce him as his franchise’s ambassador. He added “we back our national heroes”.
Waseem soared to new heights on Sunday in his flourishing career as he successfully defended his title with a unanimous-decision victory over previously undefeated opponent.

Even though Magramo was younger and had won all 17 of his professional fights, Waseem still managed to defeat him via his masterful strategy and precision striking.
At the end of the 12-round slugfest, all three judges called the fight 117-110, 114-113, 114-113 in Waseem’s favour.
