Indian minister gives cobbler INR100 for fixing slipper

A video of an Indian minister getting her slipper fixed by a roadside cobbler has gone viral after she offered him a generous tip.

Smriti Irani, who is a Minister for Textiles, approached a cobbler in Coimbatore, a city in Tamil Nadu, after her slipper strap had snapped as she got down from a flight to address a gathering.

Although the cobbler asked for Rs10, the minister handed him Rs100, saying “Change venda [change not needed]”, according to NDTV.

In the backdrop of the government’s demonitisation campaign when Rs100 notes are in great demand, Irani’s gesture won hearts across the internet.
