Helping The Blind: Trust set up for cornea donations

FAISALABAD: The Faisalabad district administration has established Lyallpur Eye Trust to introduce the system of cornea donations and transplantation on people with visual disabilities. The first meeting of the trust was held on Friday where Allied Hospital’s head of eye department and the trust’s vice-chairman Dr Muhammad Sultan briefed the officials about the required medical resources for receiving cornea donations. They said an eye bank would be set up for this purpose and the required medical machinery would be purchased. The trust’s secretary, Mian Kamaluddin, informed the officials about the registration of the Lyallpur Eye Trust and establishment of the eye bank. The Faisalabad DCO said financial cooperation of the trustees and other philanthropists was imperative to promote and develop the cornea transplantation system.
