MULTAN: A prominent Shia leader was shot dead by unidentified assailants while his son suffered bullet injuries in an attack at Kot Khadim Ali Shah, Sahiwal on Saturday.

Police raid scores of Karachi seminaries after killings

Police said Dr Khalid Mahmood died on the spot while his son Asad Mahmood, 20, was shot twice and seriously injured.

He was first taken to the District Headquarters Hospital, Sahiwal and later referred to the Services Hospital, Lahore.

A family member of Dr Khalid told The Express Tribune the victims had been receiving threatening phone calls from banned militant outfits.

Another prominent leader of the Shia Ulema Council, Raza Naqi from Multan, was shot dead in Wah Cantt at the beginning of the month.
