KARACHI:
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Fishermen Cooperative Society chairperson Nisar Morai was briefly detained and then released by the police on Saturday.
Morai had come to the City Court for a hearing of former Steel Mills chairperson Sajjad Hussain Shah's murder case against him. The proceedings, however, could not be carried out because a lawyer linked to the case could not make it to the court. According to his lawyer, Khawaja Navid, Morai was stopped and whisked away by some policemen in plainclothes as he was heading home.
In court: Nisar Morai indicted in murder case
Morai remained in captivity for about three hours and was later released. The lawyer did not confirm what his client's arrest was for. Earlier, on March 16, Morai was arrested and subsequently detained for 90 days by the Rangers.
He was accused of been involved in corruption and funding Lyari-based gangsters for personal and political gains. However, no allegation has been proved against him as yet.
