Set for inauguration: For Greater Iqbal Park, another opening date
Renovated park likely to open its gates to public on December 2
LAHORE:
There’s another date for Greater Iqbal Park inauguration. And this time it’s December 2. After announcement of several opening dates, the renovated park is likely to finally open its gates to the public. If everything goes according to plan that is.
On Thursday, Lahore’s Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) proposed yet another date for the formal inauguration of the massive project in consultation with the Lahore division commissioner.
PHA Director-General Shakeel Ahmed told The Express Tribune that the new date had been conveyed to the Chief Minister Office, which would confirm the availability of the prime minister for the inauguration.
He said the park was ready to open its door as most development works had been completed. The authority, in collaboration with the city administration, would make arrangements for the launch once it gets the green light from Islamabad.
The authority had proposed November 9 and November 12 as inauguration dates but had to postpone the ceremony owing to the ‘pressing engagements’ of the chief guest, PM Nawaz Sharif.
The PHA director said the authority had decided to transfer the annual flower exhibition from Jillani Park to the renovated park. The authority has previously held this exhibition in Bagh-e-Jinnah too.
