ISLAMABAD: Construction work on the New Islamabad Airport link road is expected to be completed by the end of 2016.

Talking to the media, NHA spokesman Kashif Zaman said on Tuesday that the project was scheduled to be completed by March next year, but it would be completed ahead of schedule. New Islamabad airport to be operational by August 2017

He explained that the link road from the motorway interchange to the airport is 5.5kms, while the cargo link road and periphery road are around 12kms. The project is stated to be the shortest and most cost-effective approach linked to the parking area at the new airport.

The link road project was approved by the Prime Minister in January 2015. The new airport is scheduled to be operational by July 2017 and would replace Benazir Bhutto International Airport.
