A day after former president Asif Ali Zardari expressed hope that his close confidant Dr Asim Hussain will walk free soon, chairman Bilawal Bhutto has appointed the latter as Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) president for Karachi.

“PPP Chairman @BBhuttoZardari appoints Dr Asim Hussain President, @SaeedGhani1 General Sec & @SyedaShehlaRaza Information Sec of PPP Karachi,” the party announced in a statement on Tuesday.

Dr Asim will walk free soon, claims Zardari

Dr Asim, a former petroleum minister and chairman of the Sindh Higher Education Commission, is currently facing multiple cases pertaining to corruption, terror financing and treatment of suspected militants.

On Nov 1, the Sindh High Court had granted bail to Dr Asim in a case related to sheltering and treatment of criminals at his private health facilities. However, the former petroleum minister is still facing two more cases.
