Bhikki plant starts generating electricity
The ministry said work on power plants and transmission lines is under way at good speed
ISLAMABAD:
The LNG-based Bhikki power plant in Sheikhupura has started generating electricity on a trial basis.
According to a report quoting the Ministry of Water and Power, the plant has an overall capacity of generating 1,200 MW of electricity.
Power project under CPEC runs aground
The plant will start adding 750MW to the national grid by March next year while it will reach its full capacity by December next year.
The plant will save Rs100 billion for the national kitty, according to the report.
The Bhikki power plant is part of government’s consolidated strategy to overcome power shortage. According to the Ministry, there will be huge addition in power generation as Chashma-3, Chashma-4, Tarbela-4 and alternative energy resources power plants including wind and solar will be completed in the near future.
