ISLAMABAD:
In order to better combat epidemics, the government is training health experts from different provinces on disease surveillance and outbreak response.

A three-week Field Epidemiology and Laboratory Training Programme (FELTP) for around 70 public health professionals was held at the National Institute of Health (NIH).

The training included a field component during which all the participants practiced data collection.

FELTP resident adviser Dr Rana Jawad Asghar said that all the participants were trained to prepare for any future outbreaks.

The Ministry of Health had started FELTP in 2006 to ensure effective disease control in the country. FELTP is a collaboration between the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Ministry of National Health Services and Regulations and Coordination, NIH and other institutional partners.
