The Election Commission of Pakistan has decided to give magisterial powers to the Rangers, police and presiding officers during the by-election in the Malir-based NA 258 constituency on November 24. The seat fell vacant after former MNA Abdul Hakeem Baloch resigned from the Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) and joined the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP).
This was decided at a meeting chaired by the provincial election commissioner, Tanveer Zaki, at his office on Saturday. He was informed that the government has already declared a holiday in the district and strict security measures will be taken.
