LAHORE: Operation Zarb-e-Azb has laid a strong foundation for peace and progress of the country and the youth can play an important role in Pakistan’s rapid progress, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif told students on Friday during a visit to his alma mater, the Government College University (GCU) here.

Advising the students to work hard, he said that they could help the nation prosper.

During the visit, the COAS was accompanied by Lahore Corps Commander Lieutenant-General Sadiq Ali and met GCU Vice-Chancellor Hassan Amir Shah.

He visited various sections of the university, especially where he spent his days as a student. He also interacted with students and faculty members.

Paying tribute to GCU’s faculty and management, General Raheel Sharif said the GCU had always played a pivotal role in producing a stream of scholars who contributed immensely in their respective domains.

He urged the youth to focus on 3Cs – character, courage and competence – and strive for honour and dignity through hard work and faith in Allah.

Expressing optimism for the country’s bright future, the COAS said: “Pakistan is a great nation and our human resource is our real asset. Operation Zarb-e-Azb has laid a strong foundation for peace and progress of the country and you can play an important role in taking Pakistan to new heights.”

According to him, Pakistan needed its youth to propel the country forward.
