LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court sought a reply on Thursday from the interior ministry over a petition filed by the former chief of Kot Addu Power Company, Aftab Butt, against inclusion of his name in the Exit Control List (ECL). Through his counsel, the petitioner informed the court that the ministry had placed him on ECL in 2008 for his alleged involvement in a scam of rental power projects. The counsel said the petitioner had been regularly attending trial of the case. He pointed out Butt also went on a foreign visit with the court’s permission and returned to the country accordingly. Moreover, the lawyer said the Supreme Court in its various rulings discouraged placement of any person on ECL for an indefinite period. Therefore, he asked the court to order the ministry to remove the petitioner’s name from the ECL. Justice Ayesha A Malik issued notice to the ministry for November 22.
