A case was registered against the suspects, while 6,000 kg of meat was destroyed by health officials.

Two caught selling ‘bad’ meat

According to Pirwadhai SHO Mustafa Kamal Niazi, the police, following a tip-off, raided a meat shop owned by Zahoor.

He added a team of district health department and doctors were called to check the product and they declared it unfit for human consumption.

Four people, including two butchers, were arrested at the shop.

Of them, two were rickshaw drivers who would supply the meat to the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad. The policeman added a fake stamp of the Sihala Slaughterhouse was also recovered from
the shack.

Six ways to spot rotten meat

Those in custody were identified as Khan, Waqas, Faisal and Usman.

A case was registered against the accused under the Punjab Animal Slaughter Control Act. Replying to a query, the SHO said the meat was brought from Mandi Bahawaldin, Sargodha and Bhalwal on five trucks. Zahoor and truck driver are still at large.
