Harassing street vendors: Police arrest three ‘extortionists’
Extortion of street vendors and small stall operators has been a consistent problem

Islamabad police have arrested three men for extorting street vendors. According to a police spokesman, vendor Malik Arshad filed a complaint at the Khanna Police Station stating that a group of men including, Amjad Ali Khatak, Waheed Gul Afghani, Ashab, Liaqat and Agha Khan had been extorting him for on a daily basis. He said that they had threatened him with dire consequences if he failed to give them the money they demanded. Following the complaint, SHO Inspector Abdul Rehman arrested Khatak, Gul and Ashab, while efforts are under way to arrest their other accomplices. Extortion of street vendors and small stall operators has been a consistent problem in parts of the city.
