SUKKUR: Shikarpur police conducted on Wednesday raids in Garhi Yasin and its surrounding areas to arrest culprits involved in an encounter with the police Tuesday night within the limits of the Garhi Yasin police station.

Two motorcyclists, believed to be Marfani tribesmen, who were being chased by Brohi tribesmen, entered the Garhi Yasin police station to seek shelter Tuesday night.

Police claimed that the Brohi tribesmen opened fire, that was returned by the Marfanis, after which the police also joined in and an exchange of fire took place between the police and Brohi tribesmen.

As a result, two Brohi tribesmen, identified as Ghulam Rasool Brohi and Zafar Brohi, were killed on the spot, while one of their accomplices was injured.  Garhi Yasin SHO Noor Mohammad Jakhro also sustained injuries and, taking advantage of the situation, the Brohis managed to escape from the scene along with their injured accomplice.

SHO Jakhro was first shifted to Shikarpur hospital for treatment, after which he was referred to a private hospital in Sukkur, where the doctors operated on him and took out two bullets, one from his stomach and the other from his foot.

Shikarpur SSP Umar Tufail immediately rushed to the Garhi Yasin police station and, talking to the media, appreciated Jakhro and his team for their bravery and said that he will recommend their names to the Sindh IG for a reward and commendation certificates.

Ghulam Rasool was a hardened criminal and was wanted in many cases of crime, said Tufail, adding that Ghulam Rasool carried head money of Rs500,000 and Zafar was also a criminal with many cases against him.

Meanwhile, a large contingent of police, led by Tufail, raided different places in Garhi Yasin and its surrounding areas and conducted a house-to-house search for the arrest of the culprits on Wednesday. The police demolished many hideouts of the criminals in Qadir Bux Brohi village, but no arrest was made.

The Marfanis and Brohis have been at war for a long time, due to which many persons from both tribes have been killed or injured.
