NEPRA approves increase in electricity prices

Nepra allows price increase of by 33 paisas per unit under monthly fuel adjustment formula.

National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) on Thursday allowed power distribution companies to raise electricity prices by 33 paisas per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment formula.

NEPRA gave permission for the increase during the hearing of applications filed by power distribution companies.

The distribution companies had requested a per unit increment of 39 paisas.

The new electricity prices will come into effect after the federal government issues a formal notification.

Last week, the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), increased rates by Rs0.96 per unit as a result of an appeal filed by KESC with Nepra for an upward revision in the electricity tariff for the month of December 2010, in respect of fuel adjustment charges, which was approved.
