Understanding your body is the key to looking good and a trait found amongst all impeccably dressed fashionistas. While people shy away from talking about their bodies, these brave souls explain how they work their anatomies to their advantage
How would you describe your body type?
I am extremely curvy.
Has your body type changed over the last five years?
Oh it’s always changing! My weight has constantly fluctuated since before I can remember, and being a complete foodie doesn’t help the cause. When I moved to Chicago for a brief period, I lost control of my body and shot up four to six dress sizes! With my body type there’s a very thin line between flattering and well, just not. That was a wake up call and since then I’ve worked really hard to come back down to a size eight, and have a much more toned body. It feels really good!
How has your style changed over the years?
What I had back in school, I definitely wouldn’t classify as style, but I guess we’ve all been there. I was always in baggy clothes and had t-shirts in every colour of the rainbow. It was only when I moved to Europe for college that I began experimenting with my style and became obsessed with high-street fashion. My style reflects my personality — it’s comfortable, fun and stands out.
In your opinion what is your most troublesome area?
I call it the JLO disorder.
How do you dress your body according to your body type?
I avoid loose-fit clothing and opt for high waist options in skinny jeans, pants and culottes. On a casual day you’ll spot me in graphic tees with ripped jeans and low-top trainers. For formal occasions, my go-to options are skirts, gowns or jumpsuits paired with a statement clutch. Currently I love headpieces and off-shoulder tops.
In your opinion what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing here?
I guess we’re all guilty of it, as everyone likes being trendy and fashion forward, but you shouldn’t forget that nothing looks good unless you’re comfortable in your own skin. Sometimes it’s best to be different.
Which silhouettes suit your body the most?
Silhouettes which highlight my waist and follow my curves.
What is the one piece of clothing that you shy away from wearing and why?
Comfort is key for me, so I tend to avoid low cuts and short dresses. Though I love peplum tops on other girls, you’ll never catch me in one. These things just don’t suit me.
