ISLAMABAD: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a man allegedly involved in uploading a woman's objectionable pictures on Facebook and blackmailing her to extort money.

FIA officials said Sheikh Tauqeer Ahmed created a fake Facebook account in the name of Shaista* and allegedly uploaded nude photos of her. The suspect eventually managed to extort Rs200,000 from the lady.

The cyber crime circle of the agency launched an inquiry after receiving a complaint from the victim and her family. Shah was subsequently arrested on November 9 and handed over to FIA for two days on November 10. He was booked for cyber-stalking and spoofing under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act.

Investigation officer Sub-Inspector Fazal Maabood told the court that they recovered passwords of the Facebook account in question and the email address the suspect had used to create the account. Investigators have also impounded the desktop computer the suspect used.

Officials said the extorted amount and a modem were yet to be recovered, requesting the court to extend the suspect’s physical remand for six days. The court, however, allowed two-day physical remand and directed the officials to produce the suspect again on November 14.
